The Product

The dbx 286A is a single channel 1U rack mounting microphone pre-amplifier and signal processor. It boasts one high quality microphone pre-amplifier and four processors which can be used independently or in any combination. The microphone pre-amplifier is both of a high quality and versatile offering 48volt phantom powering and an 80Hz high pass filter. A simple compressor, de-esser and expander/gate provide the basic tools to clean up any vocal and an enhancer tool with two basic EQ controls offer the engineer the means to brighten a voice and push it forward in the mix.

The Manufacturer

dbx was founded in 1971 by David Blackmer who started his career working in professional recording studios. He developed a new process called linear decibel companding, a process considered at the time to be many times more effective than Dolby in reducing tape noise. Although the company went on to develop a range of signal processing equipment for use in recording studios, it was always best known for its noise reduction designs. After several mergers and acquisitions dbx is now owned by Harman International and continues to develop and manufacture a wide range of signal processing equipment which represent a solid build quality, a musical sound quality and excellent value for money.
