The Product

The dbx 231S is a dual 31 band, ⅓ octave graphic equaliser. The 200 series from dbx represent a major step forward in the performance of entry level graphic equalisers, with a 10Hz to 50kHz frequency response, 112dB dynamic range, internal toroidal transformer, and rugged 1U rack mounting chassis.

Professional features include a selectable ±12dB or ±6dB input gain range, switchable 50Hz/12dB octave low cut filters, balanced audio inputs and outputs presented on XLR and ¼" jack connectors, LED output signal level meters, a system bypass switch, and a useful earth lift switch for quick hum isolation. Mains power is applied via a standard 3 pole IEC connector.

The Manufacturer

dbx was founded in 1971 by David Blackmer who started his career working in professional recording studios. He developed a new process called linear decibel companding, a process considered at the time to be many times more effective than Dolby in reducing tape noise. Although the company went on to develop a range of signal processing equipment for use in recording studios, it was always best known for its noise reduction designs. After several mergers and acquisitions dbx is now owned by Harman International and continues to develop and manufacture a wide range of signal processing equipment which represent a solid build quality, a musical sound quality and excellent value for money.
