The Product

The dbx 2031 is a single channel 31 band ⅓ octave graphic equaliser, designed and built to very high standards in a 2U rack mounting chassis, suitable for professional applications in the studio, on tour or in sound system installations. The design incorporates a type III noise reduction which increases the signal to noise performance by 20dB, as well as a PlusPeak limiter with a threshold range of 0dB to +24dB which catches any unexpected signal spikes.

Professional features include a switchable 40Hz/18dB octave low cut filter, selectable ±6dB or ±15dB gain ranges, balanced audio inputs and outputs presented on XLR, barrier strip and ¼" Jack connectors, an LED output signal level meter and limiter gain reduction meter, and a system bypass switch. Mains power is applied via a standard 3 pole IEC connector.

The Manufacturer

dbx was founded in 1971 by David Blackmer who started his career working in professional recording studios. He developed a new process called linear decibel companding, a process considered at the time to be many times more effective than Dolby in reducing tape noise. Although the company went on to develop a range of signal processing equipment for use in recording studios, it was always best known for its noise reduction designs. After several mergers and acquisitions dbx is now owned by Harman International and continues to develop and manufacture a wide range of signal processing equipment which represent a solid build quality, a musical sound quality and excellent value for money.
