The Product

The TritonAudio FETHEAD PHANTOM is a high quality, phantom powered in-line preamplifier providing improved sound for condenser microphones with a low output. The electronics are housed in a robust metal chassis with a balanced 3-pole female XLR input and a balanced 3-pole male XLR output, rugged enough for use at home, in the studio or on tour.

With it's distinguishing red dot, the FETHEAD PHANTOM differs fundamentally from the other FETHEADs in that it passes phantom power through to the microphone. Both the FETHEAD and FETHEAD FILTER block phantom power as they are designed for dynamic/ribbon microphones. From a Countryman through to an AKG C1000, tests have shown that the difference a FETHEAD PHANTOM makes to the responsiveness and frequency range is undeniable. It has been found that even condenser microphones with standard output levels can benefit from the use of a FETHEAD PHANTOM.

The FETHEAD employs a low noise JFET double Class A amplifier design which delivers low noise. This low noise, high quality signal amplification delivers a boost to low output condenser microphones without raising the noise floor. The calculated noise figures based on the JFETs datasheet are lower than TritonAudio can measure, however in the real world the quality of the phantom power supply will dictate the noise performance. In essence, if the power supply is quiet, FETHEAD PHANTOM is quiet.

The FETHEAD is also available in two other versions. One which will not pass phantom power to the microphone simply called the FETHEAD (Order Code 78-1301) and one with a high-pass filter called the FETHEAD FILTER (Order Code 78-1304).
