Tannoy have become a household name with regards to good quality, accurate sound reproduction and loudspeaker design and this new range of REVEAL monitors easily lives up to this reputation. The REVEAL 601P is a compact 2 way passive monitor with a front-firing bass reflex cabinet design. The recommended amplifier should provide 50 - 100W RMS into an 8Ω load, and connection to the cabinet is via 4mm binding posts mounted on the back panel.

The bass driver is a 15cm multi-fibre paper pulp cone and the HF driver has a 2.5cm soft dome with Neodymium magnet assembly. The front firing bass reflex port avoids the inherent bass-coupling problem (exaggerated bass response when positioned close to a wall) encountered by monitors with rear facing bass ports. The sound has a positive controlled bass response with clean and precise mid/high end capability. Suitable for smaller project studios, post production, broadcast monitoring and home Hi Fi.

The Manufacturer

Tannoy is one of the oldest and most prestigious audio brands in the world, having been founded as the Tulsemere Manufacturing Company back in 1926. The name originates from a solid-state rectifier invented by company founder, Guy Fountain, made from an alloy or mixture of Tantalum and Lead. This Tantalum-Lead alloy was the basis of the now world famous brand name of Tannoy. Through the recession of the thirties and during the second world war, Tannoy produced many different products all to do with speech and music communications, culminating in the company being commissioned by the then British War Department to manufacture and supply all of the communication systems for airfields and other military installations. This is what led to the name Tannoy becoming synonymous with PA as men from all corners of the country became familiar with the public address systems through their time in the armed forces. Today, Tannoy is the brand name that can be found on many prestigious sound installations throughout the world.
