The Product
The Soundcraft NOTEPAD 102 is a compact desktop audio mixer designed for a wide range of applications in theatre, broadcast, music production and PA. It is particularly suited to applications incorporating computer based audio workstations where a small number of sources need to be combined and monitored. It is a ten input mixer configured as two mono mic line channels and four simple stereo line channels. The mono mic line channels have a balanced input presented on an XLR connector for the mic and a 3 pole ¼" Jack for the line input. Each channel also features a gain control, 3 band eq, switchable high pass filter, a post fader auxiliary, pan control and rotary channel fader with associated clip LED.
The first two stereo channels have balanced inputs presented on 3 pole ¼" Jacks and are optimised for +4dBu signal level. Stereo channels three and four have unbalanced inputs presented on phono connectors and are optimised for -10dBV signal level, better suited to domestic CD and MP3 players. Each stereo channel features a post fader auxiliary send, balance control and rotary channel fader. The master section features an auxiliary send master, headphone and control room monitor output with associated level control, four segment LED level meter, a tape record output with 2 track return, master fader and switchable global phantom power.
The Manufacturer
Soundcraft was founded in 1973 by Phil Dudderidge and Graham Blythm and quickly made its mark with the series 1. Back in the early 70s, the music touring business was just beginning and the transportable mixing desk quickly became popular among the bands and the new PA rental companies that were springing up. Soundcraft were soon to expand and diversify, coming out with the series 2 recording desk and began to build a reputation for great sounding desks, often referred to as the favoured 'British Sound'. Today Soundcraft has a network of over one hundred distributors selling and supporting its products world-wide. Soundcraft is still very much the dedicated professional mixing console designer and manufacturer it was back in 1973. It now boasts a range of mixers which are designed for use in live sound, recording, post-production, TV and radio production and DJ applications.
