The Product

The QSC GX5 is a 500W per channel power amplifier in a 2U rack mounting chassis, ideal for professional entertainers who require maximum performance and portability but on a limited budget. The GX5 uses a class H system, based on key elements of the PLX Series, almost doubling power in the same size and weight. QSC design expertise allows the output devices to shift from low power to high power rails in less than a millionth of a second, ensuring that the output power is always right where it needs to be without excess loss.

The design uses a premium toroidal power transformer for reliable mid-weight performance and a variable-speed fan moves air crosswise through the amplifier, drawing cool air in over the power transformer, through the fan, and then over the heat sink. This keeps the transformer cool and allows a full size heat sink to fit in a smaller chassis. The amplifier is fully protected from the usual hazards of the trade, also employing the GuardRail protection electronics which permits delivery of full peak power while preventing detrimental overloads. During excessive clipping, or extreme overheating, GuardRail reduces gain just enough to preserve the integrity of the music, protecting the speakers and keeping the audience attention, without unprofessional distortion levels or shutdowns.

The GX5 also supports biamping and has an integral switchable crossover that splits the full range input entering channel 1, sending 20Hz - 100Hz to the sub output (channel 1), and 100Hz - 20kHz to the top box (channel 2). Audio inputs are balanced presented on both XLR and Jack connectors, and speaker outputs are available on either 4mm binding posts or combination Speakon Jack connectors. Mains power is applied via a standard IEC connector with a rear panel mounted circuit breaker protecting the incoming feed. The front panel has a pair of rotary input level controls with associated signal and clip LED indicators and a main power switch.
