The Product

Utilising Klein + Hummel hardware as a starting point Neumann have taken their wide experience and applied it to the development of their first studio monitor. The Neumann KH120D is a magnetically shielded, active studio monitor for use as a near-field loudspeaker or as part of a large multi-channel system. The KH120D shares same specification as the KH120A model with the added advantage of a digital input and output presented on BNC connectors. The high frequency output benefits from an elliptical Mathematically Modelled Dispersion (MMD) waveguide for improved off-axis response and a greater versatility in various acoustic environments. Low frequencies are equally well catered for with a long throw bass driver ensuring low distortion at high sound levels.

The large front panel ports reduce bass compression issues and make installation in tight spaces easier, such as within outside broadcast vehicles. The monitors wide horizontal dispersion enables freedom of movement across the mixing console, vertically however the dispersion is narrow, thus reducing reflections off the console. Rather than an exercise in shameless self promotion the dimmable, dual colour Neumann logo visually informs of the operational and protection systems status. Thermal protection circuitry and dedicated electronic peak limiters protect the woofer and tweeter independently ensuring high reliability. Due to Neumann's stringent manufacturing processes any KH120 is effectively "pair-matched" to any other KH120. Suitable applications include recording studios, television control rooms, mobile recording vehicles and mastering suites.

A version is also available without a digital input and output, referred to as the KH120A

The Manufacturer

Neumann was formed in 1928 by Georg Neumann and Erich Rickmann. They were consumed by the idea of mass producing a microphone using the capacitative transducer principle and out of this passion came a series of definitive studio microphones which have become legendary in their own right. Neumann continues to lead the way in microphone technology and now, through the re-design of Klein + Hummel's portfolio, they bring their extensive knowledge to the realm of studio monitoring.
