The Product

The Marantz PMD671 is a professional portable digital recorder which records onto standard Compact Flash cards. It is packed with useful features which include easy one-touch record, MP2, MP3, WAV and BWF file formats, 16kHz to 96kHz sample rates, selectable bit rates between 32 to 384, balanced mic inputs on XLR with phantom power, line input and output on RCA and a digital input and output.

It is possible to link the machine directly to a PC for rapid file transfer using drag and drop which speeds up production times enormously over more conventional real-time transfer. It also features a built-in limiter for control of unexpected increases in sound level and a switchable filter. All hard switched options can be blanked off once set with a removable panel thus discouraging the less technically competent from changing the settings. The machine can be operated using AA cells or the optional Marantz RB1100 rechargeable NiCad battery or the Marantz RB1650 NiMh battery.

This unit requires a Compact Flash card to function which must be ordered separately.

The Manufacturer

Marantz was officially founded in 1953 by Saul Bernard Marantz, a native of New York born in 1911. Unhappy with equipment available at the time, Saul spent many hours in his basement constructing amplifiers which ultimately found favour with like minded audio professionals. From these humble beginnings, Marantz has become a highly respected manufacturer and innovator of Hi Fi and broadcast related products throughout the world.
