The Product

The Acoustic Energy AE2201 is a two way closed-box loaded design suitable for a wide range of professional monitoring applications. It incorporates a 25mm ring radiator high frequency driver with a Neodymium magnet assembly and a 200mm pressed alloy low frequency driver with a 50mm under-hung voice coil. It is designed to be used on a mixing desk at ear level as a near-field monitor and the high power handling, medium sensitivity design, works best with high-powered (75 Watt minimum recommended) solid-state amplifiers. Electrical connection is by way of a pair of 4mm binding posts or NL4 Neutrik Speakon connector mounted to the rear recessed connector plate. In summary, the AE2201 is a low distortion, closed box speaker with an exceptional time domain performance, better than 40dB down within 5ms, and good horizontal and vertical off-axis consistency. It doesn’t have the flattest anechoic amplitude response you’ll ever see, nor the widest bandwidth, but from 60Hz to 25kHz it is about as musically accurate as moving-coil driver technology can achieve at the price. This model is handed right.

Acoustic Energy was founded in 1987 and originally based in West London before relocating to its current facility in the Cotswolds. In 1988 the AE1 was launched and originally designed to satisfy the needs of the professional audio sector by offering compact dimensions, great accuracy, precise stereo imaging, dynamics and transparency coupled with high power handling and linearity. The AE1 quickly gained a global reputation with musicians, recording artists and studio engineers and in 1991 and 1992 it won the British HiFi Award for Best Speaker. Acoustic Energy continues to develop and produce monitors for the pro studio and HiFi markets with a great range of superb products.
